Take ten

The Southern Free Times this week launches a new section aimed at learning a little more about the people who make up our community. If you have a suggestion why not drop Tania Phillips a line at newsdesk@freetimes.com.au
First cab off the rank is Nicola Holly, Gallery Director, Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery.

1) What is something people don’t know about you?
I didn’t learn how to drive until I was 24! (My partner likes to joke that I’m still not properly able to drive!)

2) What has been the most memorable moment of your life to date? Moving to Australia five years ago.
At the time Ireland was in the midst of a devastating recession and we honestly had no other option but to emigrate. It’s very difficult leaving your family and friends to move to the other side of the world but it is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

3) If you had to choose, what would your last meal on Earth be?
My mum’s Christmas dinner!

4) If you could witness any event, past, present or future, what would it be?
I would have loved to have been around during the Pop Art movement of the ’60s in New York. Andy Warhol’s Factory has always interested me; his studio became a magnet for artists and socialites, and saw some of his best work produced there. I wrote my thesis on his work and that period of time continues to enthral me.

5) What is your favourite television show?
The Good Wife, it’s produced by Ridley Scott and remains one of the best programs on TV.

6) What is your favourite book?
Too many to mention! I’m currently reading ‘Black Butterfly’ a selection of poetry by R.M Drake. The Stanthorpe Library has a fantastic collection of books in their bargain bin and I often pick up interesting books there.

7) You are hosting a dinner party and can invite six guests, dead or alive. Who would they be?
Michael Buble to serenade us, Andy Warhol to discuss art with, Gordon Ramsay to cook, Jennifer Lawrence for company, my brother and finally Channing Tatum just to look at!

8) What has been your most embarrassing moment to date?
Too many to mention unfortunately!

9) If you could live in a particular era, which would you choose?
The Renaissance.

10) What was the first or best concert you have ever attended?
My first concert was Eminem when I was 16. It was the rapper’s first time appearing in Ireland and it was during the height of his controversy. After months of plaguing my parents I was eventually allowed to go on the condition my best friend’s aunt, who was only 21 at the time, chaperoned us – it was an epic day and I still have the ticket framed at home.
