THE Polocrosse World Cup is no stranger to Morgan Park’s high-class facilities and come April 2019 the park will once again be buzzing with excitement.
After nine months deliberating over a venue to hold the 2019 World Cup, executives at Polocrosse Association of Australia decided on Morgan Park. Warwick Polocrosse Club president Les Fraser is excited to see the World Cup tournament back home.
“Morgan Park is the best polocrosse facility in the world and we are very fortunate to have a world-class facility here in Warwick,” he said.
After hosting the first World Cup event in 2003 and again in 2007, the United Kingdom took the reins in 2011 and this year South Africa is hosting the eight countries.
Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and the United States of America will take to horseback in another four years in Polocrosse’s place of birth.
“It’s great news for Warwick, Queensland and the Southern Downs, we are very excited about it,” Mr Fraser said.
“It gives us the chance to highlight what we have here on the Southern Downs – we’ll have 600 to 1000 international visitors come with their teams.
“The biggest change will be that in the first two world cups there was only two to three teams that were capable of winning – this time I can see at least six teams that have the ability to win,” he said.
Mr Fraser has been to all three World Cups and will be attending the World Cup this year in South Africa.
