Public meeting to explore coal plans

GOOMBURRRA Valley and Allora residents are being invited to a public information session tomorrow night to discuss APEC Coal’s proposed drilling activities in the area.
The meeting, which is being hosted by Southern Downs Protection Group, will take place at Goomburra Hall on Wednesday at 7pm.
President Sarah Moles said it was important landholders knew their rights.
“It threatens prime farming land, it threatens water sources, tourism, land values and the negative impacts of this just go on and on and on,” she said of a potential coal mine.
The mining company, which holds a coal exploration permit, sent letters to a number of property owners in the Goomburra Valley area last month outlining its desire to begin compensation negotiations for drilling.
