Story time at Warwick.

SUMMER reading has never been so much fun with all the great activities planned at the Southern Downs Regional Council libraries in Stanthorpe, Warwick and Allora.
Principal Librarian Samantha Shelbourn said the school holiday activities would suit different age groups and would keep youngsters entertained during the summer holidays.
“We have our Summer Reading Club which runs from 1 December until 31 January, where children sign up at their local library and pick up an activity pack.
They also gain an entry into the prize draw for every five books they read.
“Our Mystery Reads are also great fun with children participating in a lucky dip. They may choose a book they wouldn’t normally go for so it’s a good way to broaden their reading tastes.
“Summer reading is great way to relax and unwind for children, just as much as adults.”
Stanthorpe Librarian Chris Taylor said as well as the Summer Reading Club the Stanthorpe Library had organised some great Christmas activities for December.
“Especially for Christmas we have the Christmas Treasure Hunt from 8 December to 24 December. Children need to find 16 Christmas decoration pictures hidden around the library and write the code on an entry from. All completed entries go into the prize draw.
“We also have our Card and Decoration Creation Station where children can make their own special cards and also help decorate the library Christmas tree.
“Visitors will have fun with our ’Guess how many?’ Christmas lollies in a bottle. With all of this going on library staff are sure there will be no time for being bored over the school holidays,” she said.
At Warwick Library children will be kept entertained with various activities. Warwick Librarian Marianne Potter said families would enjoy the Christmas treasure hunt and the self-paced activity tables of colouring in, crosswords and puzzles as well as the Christmas craft.
“We will continue our weekly Storytime activity – this is held every Thursday at 10.30am and we will have a special Christmas theme for our 18 December Storytime,” Marianne Potter said.
“We look forward to welcoming many children and families to our libraries over the Christmas break and hope to encourage many young readers to expand their reading and learning,“ she said.
