Dream setting for garden party

MISS Fruit and Vegetable entrant Sophie Sims and her committee have been busy during the past few months with preparations for their next major fund-raiser.
To celebrate spring, the warmer weather and the beauty of this wonderful time of the year, a garden party will be held at “Kavilla Gardens” 682 Eukey Road, Stanthorpe, on Saturday 8 November.
“Kavilla Gardens” is a rambling country garden designed to be as low-maintenance as possible. Nestled among the beautiful Granite Belt bushland, the picturesque garden is a dreamy location which is perfect for an afternoon of relaxation and enjoyment.
Ms O’Connor has been busy tending to her garden to ensure it will be in its prime for this event.
“The garden is the result of 20 years of trial and error to find what would survive in the extremes of temperature and drought in the Granite Belt,” Ms O’Connor said.
“To my grandchildren, it is a magical playground where warm memories are made, to the rest of us it is a peaceful haven to share with the many birds that live here, never forgetting that we may find a little ‘magic’ too.”
The garden party commences at 1.30pm with an afternoon including a fashion parade by Out and About Fashions and Gleeson’s Mercery. Sophie Sims will entertain guests with some songs accompanied by Michelle McCarthy on flute as well as a set by local identities David and Sarah Hume.
A mystery judge will be mingling among the guests searching for the Best Dressed Outfit and Best Accessorised Lady. Anne Lindsay will be emcee ensuring the day flows smoothly and that everyone has a wonderful time.
“This fund-raiser is the pinnacle of my Showgirl journey,” Sophie said.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my adventures so far and I’m looking forward to this spectacular event. My committee has been working hard and I want to thank Kath and her energetic offsiders who have also worked hard to make this garden ready for this event.
“I’d like to invite all ladies to come along for this fun-filled afternoon as good times will be guaranteed.”
A multi-draw raffle will be held with prizes up for grabs as well as a silent auction with all items bearing the theme around gardens and spring.
A bar will operate with local, friendly faces from the Miss Fruit and Vegetable committee. Tickets are on sale at Pink Poppies (cash only) at a cost of $25 per person which includes a glass of bubbles on arrival, a delicious afternoon tea and a lucky door prize.
Bookings for the garden party will close Wednesday the 5 November.
A Crisp bus will operate however seats are limited to 45 and need to be booked with Angie on 0427 670 671. Whether you book as a group or come along solo, Sophie and her team will endevour to make this garden party experience a delight.
