THE 52nd Annual Rose Festival is expected to be blooming marvellous when it takes place next Friday at St Mark’s Church, Warwick.
The St Mark’s Women’s Guild is encouraging the community to showcase their talent, and has invited novice rose growers with the offer of a special section and the chance to win the Jack Hall Perpetual Trophy.
“It only takes one rose to win the coveted Champion Rose accolade and to have one’s name engraved on the Southern Downs Regional Council Perpetual Trophy,” secretary Sue Nalder said.
The winning rose will be displayed in the crystal Hazel Hoffman Memorial Vase. There are also small cash prizes for all of the winning entries. Last year marked the inaugural year for awarding a Reserve Champion Rose with a perpetual trophy dedicated in memory of Halvor Guy.
Entry in the five categories is free of charge.
Exhibits must be brought to St Mark’s Parish Hall, Grafton Street, between 8.30am and 10.30am on 10 October with judging to commence at 11am.
A social afternoon at a cost of $6 will begin at 1.30pm, which includes the presentations, display of roses, entertainment from Yangan’s Sue Needer along with a delicious home-baked afternoon tea, raffles and a mini cent sale.
