Wholesome life envisioned

MULI Muli Ladies Aboriginal Corporation had a vision to create a more wholesome fulfilment of life for the Muli Muli Aboriginal Community encompassing elders to children alike.
On 12 April, a formal ceremony was held at Muli Muli, between Urbenville and Woodenbong, to launch the ‘Protecting Our Places Project’ which is organised by the core group of ladies consisting of Marion Close, Freda Jarrett and Rebecca Green along with other members whose main aims are gaining opportunities to assist in their dream of a safe and healthy community for all families.
Their projects have included a Healthy Eating Project for Aboriginal Communities, a Governance Training Project; “Getting Down to Business”, the Crime Prevention Project implemented by Kyogle Council, have seen the development of a Community Garden, a gym for personal use to promote fitness and wellbeing and a basketball court.
The ceremony began with words from Marion Close, Welcome to Country was spoken by Elder Amos (Micky) Close, Jennifer Williams dance leader performed with several local children, Freda Jarrett gave a heartwarming speech of their vision shared, Robert Boota spoke of the Githabul Rangers and the work they do in their Native Title area and how job creation is a great building platform to grow in.
The highlight of the day was the presenting of a cheque by Thomas George, State Member for Lismore, to Naomi Hickling, Sharaya Close and Brogan Almat (all young mothers), to fund the latest project of playground equipment for the young children of the community. The $25,000 was funded by NSW Government Community Funding Partnership.
Elders, Dorothy Williams cut the ceremonial ribbon and Effie Roberts cut the cake concluding the official part of the day then all adjourned to enjoy a delicious luncheon and relaxed with friendly socialising.
