Making a stand

The crew at the Tenterfield tourism stand fielded 300 inquiries at the show .

TENTERFIELD Tourism have received a positive response from its appearance at the Brisbane Holiday and Travel Show late last month.
The show, held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre at Southbank, has been hailed as a success by the Tenterfield team.
While event organisers are yet to release official entry figures, more 300 people visited the Tenterfield Tourism stand and spoke to tourism officer Caitlin Reid and business owners,
Four regional businesses participated in the show including Tenterfield Escapes and Getaways,
Tenterfield Bowling Club, Top of the Town Stanthorpe and Law Dogs Australia.
Tenterfield Mayor Peter Petty said the local representatives at the show agreed that the majority of visitors to the stand showed genuine interest in Tenterfield and the region.
He said that although there was a high recognition of Tenterfield, many knew it as a stopover, rather than a destination in its own right.
“Thanks to the passion and knowledge of those on the stand, there are now at least 200 people considering a visit to the region,” he said.
Tenterfield Tourism was one of a small number of domestic destinations, including Tweed Coast, Scenic Rim and South East Queensland, and was the only NSW destination on show. Many of the visitors were interested in short-break weekend destinations.
Cr Petty said he very encouraged by the response received at the show.
“While the impact is not expected to be felt immediately, and could take up to two years to really be felt, the amount of enquiries already received by participants is a very positive sign,” he said.
