REVELLERS are bracing for another flaming good time as preparations start for this year’s Dalveen Rural Fire Brigade Backburners Ball on 3 May.
Last year nearly 270 people converged on the Dalveen Hall to dance into the early hours of the morning to the Mic Travers Band from Brisbane.
Dalveen Rural Fire Brigade first officer Jim Mitchell said ticket sales had been steady, but expected the rest would sell quite quickly.
“The Mic Travers Band consists of a group of very talented musicians who play a wide variety of music including pub rock and blues,” he said.
“They play at a number of large festivals around the country.
“We have limited the ticket sales as the hall and surrounds can comfortably accommodate around 300 people, so it’s a case of first in, best dressed.
“This is our major fund-raiser for the year, with all proceeds going to the Dalveen Rural Fire Brigade.”
Interest has been received from far a field after last year’s event. In fact, it was the positive feedback from last year’s event that prompted the organisers to do it again.
“Last year’s attendance was really encouraging, and if it continues to grow like we think it will, we may have to move it next year outdoors on to the oval,” Mr Mitchell said.
This year we expect a lot more people to stay overnight and make the most of the recovery breakfast the following day.
“There’s no charge to camp on the oval adjacent the hall.”
Mr Mitchell stressed it was a family-friendly event and that the dress was casual.
As per last year there will be a licensed bar operating and food will be available early in the evening.
There will be fires placed around the hall to keep people warm and raffle prizes drawn throughout the night.
The brigade has even had commemorative 2014 Backburners Ball beanies manufactured to mark the occasion, which will be available for purchase at the bar.
Tickets are available at Brinx Deli, Stanthorpe, Sams Fruit Shop at The Summit, the Dalveen Post Office, or by phoning Nathan Parkes on 0488 300 356.
